It is done through gentle touch or the hands hovered slightly over the body. A warm and soothing energy flows from the practitioner hands into the client, promoting relaxation and releasing tension.\u00a0<\/p><p>Reiki translates as \u201cspiritually guided life force energy\u201d or what we may understand as the \u201cHoly Spirit\u201d through a Christian lens. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not tied to any religion, just a pure and unconditional love. So Reiki is appropriate for those of all faiths and religions.\u00a0<\/p><p>The energy travels throughout our body through meridians, chakras and nadis. When blockage occurs, energy flows less freely impacting directly our well-being. You will lie down fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above different areas of your body to channel healing energy. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet, for example. Each position is held for around 3 minutes, depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. The whole treatment usually lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.<\/p><p>As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside their bodies or have visions.
